Old Medina & historical sites in Fez

Fez is situated in the middle of the Atlas, it is an interior city it enjoys a Mediterranean climate and at the same time affected by continental climate and the cold air currents from the Middle Atlas. Travelling is possible the whole year.

Fes has a reliable transportation infrastructure and airport, two railway stations and it is also in the crossroads of national motorways. Fez is considered as a spiritual city, contains numerous mosques, religious schools, riyads, historical gardens and palaces and souks. Fez was a primordial city for all the dynasties that governed Morocco and they all left their architectural impact in it. The historical monuments in the city were restored and refurbished to stand as witness of a long and rich history. Bearing in mind, that the first university in the Magreb region called Al Quarouiyine was created in Fez and it is considered among the oldest and the most prestigious universities in the Arab-Islamic world.

While hanging around in the old street of Fez, you will come across many local bazaars and shops that provide a big variety of traditional handicrafts (traditional clothes, leather products…) There are also boutiques of gold and other precious commodities. You can also find popular restaurants and cafes in the old Madina that present wide range of fresh food and meat, vegetables, herbs and spices, with cheap prices. Recently, supermarkets and mega stores were opened in Fez that will allow you to shop with a wide range of products from home appliances to fresh food and vegetables under one roof.

In fact, Fez is divided into three main parts: Fez el-Jedid, is an administrative and royal site and Fez el-Bali which is the oldest, both form the Medina of Fez. While Fez new city was constructed when Fez was under the French colony.

The city of Fez is trying nowadays to develop itself in all sectors and to catch up to the other big and influential cities in Morocco. A lot of enhancements took place in Fez, big gardens were created and improved, beautiful and big colorful fountains exist in every road junction and public garden and you can hear the music from above; which makes the experience of walking in the main boulevards of Fez an exciting and a pleasing experience to remember. Fez contains one of the longest boulevards in Africa with green and colorful sceneries that stretch along the city until the old Medina. The city also contains many bars, restaurants and hotels that provide high quality services. Restaurants present different range of menus though the majority of them are specialized in the Moroccan traditional food such as Couscous, Tagins etc some of these Restaurant offer a beautiful view on the old medina and some have live entertainment for their customers. Furthermore, there is in the main streets of Fez international food brands and Restaurants that offer international cuisine.
